Where are uploaded files stored? How can they be backed up?

Where are the files stored when uploaded? If I perform a backup using a plugin like UpdraftPlus, will the files be included in that backup? Are they stored in a folder on the server?

Our plugin is based on WP Media manager default, the file urls are unchangable.
We just create virtual folders which are stored in database to manages images easier.
So it will work if you backup your site using UpdraftPlus.
