Hello

I already have nextgen plugin premium version but it's steel missing media folder management : i need to organize pictures to be used under masterslider as revslider so the idea is to use your plugin to redirect all files in the sames commun folders used by media library and nextgen...is it possible ?

Let me know. Thanks
T
Hi,

If metaslider and revslider are using WordPress native media manager, you can put images in folders.
You can't classified image from nextgen gallery but the upcoming version that may comes next week will include a Nextgen gallery importer.

Hello,

just buy it but already disapointed : it does not create real folder is'nt it ? only categories that are manage as folders by your plugin. Am i wrong ?

Hi,

Sorry about that.
It's not "physical" folders but our own taxonomy. The plugin has an importer for WordPress media categories. So in that way if you decide to disable the plugin everything will go back to normal in your media.

If you're not happy with the plugin we grant you a refund, you can drop us a billing ticket.

Cheers,

Why would it matter? The result for the end user is "folders". I am going to guess one of the reasons it does not create real folders is that WP does not support them. Therefore it very ingeniously uses categories to create folders. Which are actually more powerful than folders because you can put the same image in multiple categories if you choose to do so. Plus as Tristan says that way if you stop using their product everything still works perfectly.

To update this thread, an integration exists and will create actual folders: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-media-folders/ .

We still think that moving files inside real folders is a bad idea and Wordpress Media Library has not been made that way .

Here is a list of the disavantages of moving files:

  • It doesn't help SEO as other plugins say, there is no proof at all about that.
  • It doesn't help managing images as you still have to manage it through the Wordpress Media Manager, even if it's in actual folders on your server.
  • It can lead to errors in your Wordpress installation. Wordpress saves all attachments to database in a very particular way. It means that each file moved has to be replaced in the database, and all text field in the database must be checked to replace urls of your images inside (including thumbnails).
  • If you have a lot of posts it takes time and increase the probability that something goes wrong.
  • If any plugin uses Wordpress attachements in a different way that the usual way this may lead to broken links in this plugin.
