Hi, I know some web hosts place a limit on the number of files in a directory. As Woocommerce makes several sizes of each image, say a folder is holding 8000 images, by using WP Media Folder does the host then see that folder as holding far fewer images or does it still hold the 8000?

I am assuming it still holds the 8000 but with Woocommerce and the Theme making so many images how do people making a new shop with say, 2000 items (maybe 10,000 images generated) handle having a folder with that many images in, from the point of view of not upsetting their web host? or do some web hosts not care how many images are in a directory?

We will be buying the WP Media Folder anyway but are curious. Piers

Hi Piers,

Personally I've never had this problem of file number limitation with a hosting provider. Maybe a security reason? Note that it could be worst, some other plugin can generate their own size too.
Anyway, WP Media folder is not creating real folder but using it's own taxonomy. It means that physically your media will remain in the WordPress monthly based file structure.

Hello, can you confirm that I can directly upload folders (with images inside) from my computer ?

Thank you.
T
Hi,

Yes you can do that but not "directly" from your computer.
You'll have to upload all your media on your server, by FTP for example, then use the FTP import feature available in WP Media folder.

Then all your media and folder structure will be imported.

Hello, thank you, so, to be clear,

I just copy my folders and files to a specific FTP folder, then I can import to any of my multi-install Wordpress all the pictures and folders that I put on FTP ? Then I will find my folders and files in my Wordpress media library ?

Thank you so much.
T
Hi,

Yes sure that's it. You have also an automatic media sync tool with FTP folders (not just a one shot import).

Hello, I bought your plugin, easy install and I have started to import to media library 20000 pictures and folders, that are on my computer (uploaded by ftp)

I have select SYNC EXTERNAL MEDIA option

Do you know what settings I should use for "Sync delay" ? Now it is 5 minutes, but maybe not the best choice for 20000 files to upload ? Or is ok ?

Upload seems to be slow, do you know how long it can take ?

Thank you for the good work.
T
Hi,

It could take a while because one shot 20K images is a lot. Check how much time it takes when you import an image in WordPress. The process is: transfert the image + generate thumbnails for this image.

About 5' it's very short delay. This delay is handy if you have media that needs to be checks very frequently for updates. If not you can increase it, it will save server resources.

Hello,

Can you tell me what happens with your plugin when trying to upload by FTP files that have already been uploaded ?
(as I have so many files i sometimes I need to retry to upload the same folders to succeed).

Does your plugin just skips these files that already exist ?

Except slow upload because of my 20000 files your module is great, thank you !

Sorry, just wanted to add that it would be great to have a % above the processing bar when importing pictures from FTP to media library. The processing bar does not move a lot when importing many files.

Hi,

Yes exactly. We'll add a % of progress or file count in a next version, thanks for the feedback.

Hello,

So it's good, if files that already exist are skipped, I can click IMPORT again to check that a folder has been completely uploaded.

Thank you so much, yes the % can be useful to see something moving when uploading thousands of files.
