Hello, I am looking to purchase the WP Media Folder plugin, but I have some questions first.
To start, I did ask a Jooma chat representative my questions, but they were unable to answer everything.
- They were not sure if WordPress would automatically recreate thumbnail images when we import the Media Library after deleting the thumbnail images before import. Do you think the best procedure is to first export and import the Media Library then delete the unneeded thumbnail images?
- They were not sure if the plugin integrated with Cloudflare. Does it? (See my second concern below)
- Does the plugin export/import images posts AND images, as in the two combined? Or just images?
I would appreciate insight on these three questions but any insight you can provide on the rest of my questions below would be appreciated. (I know, it’s a wall.)
Full context below:
I am currently moving my site to a new hosting provider and I have a ton of images. Approximately 13.5k images in fact. What my web developer has found, however, is that due to a combination of themes current and old, WordPress settings, and other plugins, there are several thumbnail sizes, and, in some cases, duplicate versions attributed to each image. This has resulted in bloating my Media Library several times in size and we are trying to figure out the best way to handle this and migrate the Media Library to the new site without any broken images. My media library is organized currently first in folders by year > month > and then the images. My first questions are: will this plugin allow us to move the Media Library from my old site to the new one while keeping the same folder structure? And then will we be able to use the plugin to find/filter and delete the thumbnail sizes that are causing the size of the library to bloat?
We, my developer and I, are currently in the process of “cleaning” my site’s Media Library by manually removing the thumbnail images. With my questions above in mind, do you think it is best for us to “clean” the Media Library then upload it to the new site using the WP Media Folder plugin? Or upload it to the new site, as the bloated mess it is, then “clean”, either with your plugin or manually? We want to make sure that our 1,200-ish blog posts and all the images that are actually being used port over correctly, so we are open to advice on how to do that.
My second concern is AWS integration. Right now, I have another plugin that offloads my Media Library to AWS S3 and then I use CloudFlare’s CDN network to deliver the image requests and, crucially, shorten the S3 URLs to be more SEO-friendly. My questions are: I see that Amazon’s CDN, CloudFront, is supported. Is CloudFlare supported by this plugin? Would CloudFRONT shorten the URLs for SEO-friendliness? Also, is there a limit to the number of photos that we can offload to AWS through your plugin?
Bottom line: I am looking for a solution to migrate a very large WordPress Media Library to a new site in the most efficient way possible while also being able to remove any unnecessary thumbnails to shrink the size of the library. I am hoping that your plugin will be that solution.
Regards,
Courtney
