Greetings,

I am using your free plugin but and considering purchasing the paid version so I can sync with my Google Drive.

My friend is using WP Media Folder with Google Drive allowed me to view his WP admin so I could see his in action.

Syncing instructions for Google Drive are lacking in detail and I want to make certain I get my settings correct to avoid the problems he is experiencing.

The problem I see is it seems WP Media Folder is making copies of his Google Drive into his Wordpress media folder. This confusing for the staff managing his site.

I don't want the same happening at my sites. I don't want to see any of my images from Google Drive showing up in my Wordpress media folder.

Is that possible? And what setting would I need to turn off/on for that to happen?

And on behalf of my friend, would deleting the files that show in his Wordpress media folder (from his Google Drive area below the Wordpress media folder) cause any problems? He wants me to help him clean out his media folders so only files uploaded to his server show there.

Thank you.

This is not possible in our plugin to restrict users to access Cloud folders at the backend site.
Only admin can view and edit folders.

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me, but from your replay, I have failed to make my questions clear.

How do I stop WP Media folder from showing (or copying) images from my Google Drive files in my Wordpress default media folder too?

And if they do show up in both places, can I delete the ones in my Wordpress media folder safely. I just want them gone from my default Wordpress media but stay in my Google folder.

What setting controls this behavior? I cannot figure it out from reading your documents.

Looking at my friend's site, after he installed WP Media folder to Google Drive connector, his Wordpress media folder ballooned in size up to 96 pages of images (@50 per page, for a single month. That's 4,800 for one month!! And 90 pages for the next month. Both he and I store thousands of images in our Google Drive but only use a few at any given time.

The connector Google has created a huge problem at my friends site and I don't want to be facing the same problem at my site. I want to reference the images from Google Drive and not see them again in my Wordpress media folder. Locating an unloaded image that's supposed be in the default media folder takes a long long time at my friend's site and it's driving his staff crazy.

And my friend wants me to help him clean his default Wordpress media folder, so I want to know if for him (and also for me if I'm going to be buying a license) if deleting these duplicated files in the Wordpress media folder will cause a problem.

Hope I have explained this better and thank you again for your help.

Media files in cloud folders are finally stored in your cloud server. We just index file information in the Media library.
It does not occupy your server space. Then if you unlink your account, files still remain on your cloud.

Hope it helps!

Thanks for your reply.

We don't wish to unlink the account, just remove the files that are synced into / indexed into the Wordpress default media folder, while continuing to use the Google Drive images. It sounds to me you're saying that deleting the ones in Wordpress default media folder would not cause a problem but you haven't specifically stated.

Also, I still would like to know how to stop WP Media folder from indexing there. Which setting is that?

Thanks again for your help,

Let me explain the progress of files uploading to cloud folders in our plugin:
Files upload to Media library (store on your server), then those are uploaded to cloud server.
After that files are removed from your server (just files' information are stored in the database).

Also, I still would like to know how to stop WP Media folder from indexing there. Which setting is that?

There is no setting here. Do you ask yourself how the images will be displayed in your Media library without indexing?

Hope you understand!

Thanks for your reply. It was your use of the term indexing that leads me to feel I confused things with a poor wording choice when framing my question.

I should have worded my question like this:

Also, I still would like to know how to stop WP Media folder from showing duplicates of the Google Drive files in my Wordpress library default folder? Which setting is that?

I'm will not be uploading any files to my server. I wish to use only files from my Google Drive. So my Wordpress library default media folder should stay empty right?

Thank you for your patient responses.

Files will actually be stored on Google Drive. So how can you insert media into your post/page without seeing them on WP Media library?
Sorry, I do not understand what you mean exactly here.

Hi,

Thank you for your patience. It's the names that are confusing explanations.

Yes, of course I want to see them but only in the Google Drive folders section of my Wordpress library. But only in that section of my library. Not in two areas.

Yes, that's what our plugin does. Those files are indexing in Google Drive folders section only.
Hope you find the answer here!

Sorry for asking so many questions but I'm not understanding your responses.

My screenshot showed 2 areas. The Media Library top level with the Google Drive below.

What I want for these not to show in both areas. There are entries in the Media Library default folders for files in the Google Drive folders below. They are showing up in two places for the same file.

I want them not to be duplicated in the Media Library default folder..

How do I make that happen?

Thank you,

I'm not sure which version are you using, but it could be something wrong at your site if it's occurring as you described.
Normally, files will be stored where you upload files only.

Btw, this is an area for pre-sales questions. If the issue is happening on your site please drop us a ticket at (Support > Support ticket),
our dev will check that and fix it for you if it does not work as usual.

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

Thank you, yes I'm sure my friend will be submitting a support query. However it would have been nice to have been provided answer that would have helped me set up my Google connection properly to avoid the same problem and I still don't have that answer.

I am also wishing there was a support forum for the premium plugin. I find forums most helpful because frequently encountered problems can be solved without a support ticket, and often without even posting to the forum because someone else will have had a similar problem.
