basic function of google drive addon

Can you please clarify the functioning of the google drive addon.

Instead of using FTP to upload bulk images to my uploads folder where I can then use WP Media folder to organize them I would load a folder to Google Drive instead?

The files would be then be copied to the uploads folder, correct? We are not talking about linking media to be pulled from Drive on demand?

Is this typically faster than FTP? It certainly seems more convenient...

Very impressed with plugin features and just trying to pin down if I want to use addon.

I have read the documentation online and am still not 100% on its functioning.
