Hello,

Is it possible to add the search field to the default theme, like in my mockup image?

I like the "Default theme" layout but would like to add the search field to it as well so visitors can either browse or search from that page.

Yes, you can enable Display file search option in category setting. Then you can see the search bar above file category.
