I am in the process of trying to replace WP-Filebase Pro on a site and I'd like to make sure I can get at least the same minimum functionality we have today. I've looked at the FAQ and other forum posts and it isn't clear whether I can in the currently shipping version. Apologies if this is indeed answered and I just missed it.
With WPFB, there are several thousand existing files that are under external subversion control in a directory structure that defines our categories. The content managers never log into WordPress to manage these files. They upload them via an internal page, and svn propagates the copies to the appropriate folders on the webservers, and WPFB syncs hourly with those folders, presenting an Ajax-based view of the folder structure (based on shortcodes) on pages dedicated to each category or sub-category.
First, it appears that WP File Download has the ability to read a folder's contents without issue, but is there any sort of import/sync that needs to happen automatically? We run a wp-cron script to handle that today with WPFB. Is WP Media Folder perhaps a better solution for this or is File Download the right solution? Or will it require both?
Second, can we embed shortcodes on our pages that correspond to specific sub-categories, and when files are put in the appropriate folder/category they are automatically displayed on that page? We explicitly categorize the filesystem programmatically so that content managers are not logging into WordPress to manage media a 2nd or 3rd time, and want to present everything in a given folder all the time.
Third, I see Ajax referenced in a few places, but it isn't clear to me if the end-user view is a dynamic Ajax-based view? So we can keep with the simple page <> category association we have now and even perhaps present multiple sub-categories via their own shortcode?

I've been asking for this functionality for over 12 months now, i dont think its ever going to come. Im still using wp-filebase pro on newer versions of wordpress but am nervous every time we upgrade.
