Main goal of using Dropfiles will be an easy way to offer download of big files that are stored in Dropbox only and not on joomla's server.
I think it can but I can't find any information how this can be achieved in your documentation.
Can you confirm this and give me some direction on where to find the necessary info.

Yes, you can share your files on Dropbox with our Dropfiles. Of course, files are actually stored on Dropbox, not on your server.
