If I insert a gallery block, I can add captions to the images. But if I subsequently edit the gallery (perhaps to change the order of images), the captions already added are lost. If there are many, it is extremely tedious entering them again.

As far as I can determine, if Advanced Gutenberg is not active, the gallery block uses the image caption. If the plugin is active, it seems to ignore the image caption in the media library and you have to add one again. But this type of caption is lost on opening the edit gallery function, even if you do not edit anything.

Have I got this right? I think it would be much preferable to use the caption from the media library and to make it endure when editing the gallery.

thanks

Hi,

Thanks for contacting us here about this extension.

Yes, you can not edit caption directly from block, it should be added/edited at Media library or when you insert/edit a gallery.
The caption of images that are edited on the Gallery block, will be lost when you update the gallery.
Anyway, this issue comes from Gutenberg, you should contact to them. It does not relate to our Advanced Gutenberg.

Hope it helps!

Hi and thanks for responding... but I beg to differ...

Without the Advanced Gutenberg plugin installed. the captions are copied from the media, I can edit the captions and they are not lost when the gallery is re-ordered. [The caption in the media is not updated by this edit.]

With the Advanced Gutenberg plugin installed, the captions are not copied from the media but have to be added in the block. When the gallery is edited, these captions are lost.

So I do not believe this is a Gutenberg issue but is related to the Advanced Gutenberg plugin.

I look forward to hearing further. Kind regards.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me with more information.
As I checked, the captions are shown on images on the block in both case (with all images including captions).
And if you add images without captions, then add the caption on block, so it can not be updated on the images in media.
It does not matter you use our Adv. Gutenberg or not.
Please give us your video to show the issue to cross check!

Cheers,
