Hello...

I spent a few hours on your site researching your products and I am still not sure if any of your products will work with my site.

I am using WP-Client (https://wp-client.com) to provide a Membership style site where I can assign all Wordpress content on my site to per user or per group of users (pages, posts, custom post types, forums, media, files, categories, tags, etc). They have a feature built in to upload and download files on the private page that each user gets assigned (they call it a HUB page). The "External File" module that is built in allows me to link a single DropBox file at a time and is not robust enough to manage the DropBox account or sync folders and subfolders at one time. Just file by file...and we have over 7,000 files...so this is not practical to use.

I am looking at both your 'Media Folder' and you 'File Download' plugins...both being used with the Dropbox Addon. Do you see that either (or both) plugins would be appropriate for providing us a more robust DropBox management?

FYI - The WP-Client private portal HUBs work by inserting content assigned to that HUB via shortcodes in the HUB page. If you need to know more about WP-Client in order to best advise me, please let me know.

Thanks,
Jason

Hi,

Thanks for contacting us here about this extension.
I am looking at both your 'Media Folder' and you 'File Download' plugins...both being used with the Dropbox Addon. Do you see that either (or both) plugins would be appropriate for providing us a more robust DropBox management?

Sorry, I'm have no experience with WP-Client but I think WP File Download plugin seems suitable to your requirement. Sync to Dropbox is one of the main feature in WP File download addon.

Thanks a lot!

I have spent some more time today looking at both your Media Folder and your File Download plugins again....and I am having a hard time figuring out what the real difference is between the two of them.

The main differences between the two, as I see it, is that 'File Download' has a separate file management interface from the Wordpress Media Library and a frontend file management interface for the site visitors, whereas Media Folder is mainly a Media Library extension to add a graphical user interface that includes more robust file management for the Admin's backend? Does that sound accurate?

Do you have a side by side comparison for File Download and Media Folder, to help me figure out what each one is really targeted to accomplish?

Does 'File Download' and 'Media Folder' work well together, if I wanted to use both at the same time? Is that appropriate or just overlap the same functions?

Is the DropBox add-on the same for both plugins or is there two different DropBox add-ons functions differently from each other?

Lastly, regarding the DropBox Add-on(s)....it was not clear in the videos and descriptions...

1. Do the DropBox files get copied over to our own website's server in order to be used on our website, at which point the files stay synced between our web server and the DropBox server; or

2. Can the DropBox files remain located and stored on the DropBox server in order to offload both the storage and the viewing bandwidth from our web serve and let the DropBox server handle the workload?

Thanks,
Jason

Another Question Regarding Media Folder, File Download, and the DropBox add-on(s)...

Do any of them allow for a custom folder location to be selected as the storage location for files (other than the standard location for the Wordpress Media Library)? Our WP-Client plugin we are using can only protect and assigned permission for files that are located in the following specific folder on the site's server..."/home/your_website/public_html/wp-content/uploads/wpclient/_file_sharing/".

Also, does Media Folder or File Download provide a shortcode that can be pasted into a Page/Post that dynamically shows only the files and folders assigned to the Wordpress User that is securely logged into that Page/Post? I saw shortcodes mentioned in the documents, but could find no exact example of how this is handled.

Sorry for all the questions...it is difficult to get several third party plugins to work together in order to achieve the desired results.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for your reponse.
Let me try to answer your questions one by one:
The main differences between the two, as I see it, is that 'File Download' has a separate file management interface from the Wordpress Media Library and a frontend file management interface for the site visitors, whereas Media Folder is mainly a Media Library extension to add a graphical user interface that includes more robust file management for the Admin's backend? Does that sound accurate?

Yes, it's right.
Do you have a side by side comparison for File Download and Media Folder, to help me figure out what each one is really targeted to accomplish?

I think you understand so clearly about our 2 plugins ;) Anyway, which is the feature are you looking for?
Does 'File Download' and 'Media Folder' work well together, if I wanted to use both at the same time? Is that appropriate or just overlap the same functions?

Yes, they can work together for sure.
Is the DropBox add-on the same for both plugins or is there two different DropBox add-ons functions differently from each other?

They are 2 different plugins so you should setup Dropbox account seprately, but you can use one account for both.
About Dropbox, the files are stored in Dropbox server, sync 2 both ways
You can see these links for more information: Dropbox in WP Media Folder and Dropbox in WP File Download

Do any of them allow for a custom folder location to be selected as the storage location for files (other than the standard location for the Wordpress Media Library)?

Yes, WP File download allows for a custom folder location.
does Media Folder or File Download provide a shortcode that can be pasted into a Page/Post that dynamically shows only the files and folders assigned to the Wordpress User that is securely logged into that Page/Post?

In WP Media Folder, the shortcode will be created after creating new gallery. It can be use in Page/ Post.
In WP File Download, both single files and categories have shortcode. You can see here.

Hope it helps!
Cheers,
