Hi

Is it possible for a user with a specific role to have read access to all files but only be able to upload and edit files in specific categories?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Thanks for contacting us here about this extension.

This is something you can do at backend but users can not see all files. You can set users to create categories and upload, edit files in their own categories.
Please go here for more information:

https://www.joomunited.com/wordpress-documentation/wp-file-download/225-wp-file-download-files-and-categories#toc-file-management-setup-by-wordpress-user-role-2

If you want to do it on frontend, users can upload files to a category only, edit file is not possible on frontend.
The visibility of category for users on frontend will be set at category settings:

https://www.joomunited.com/wordpress-documentation/wp-file-download/225-wp-file-download-files-and-categories#toc-file-access-and-visibility-2

Hope it helps!

Thank you. Is that "their own categories" as a User or as a Role? I.e. can several people with the same role upload to a set of categories selected by the Administrator?

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me with more information.

Currently, users can see their own categories only at backend otherwise, they can see all categories as "Edit categories" option is enabled.
You can set all users with the same role to view categories on frontend only.

Thanks a lot!

Thank you. Ideally I would like to give multiple users (with the same role) upload access to the same category, but not all categories. Do you know of any way to do this, perhaps with an add-on, or do you plan to do this in future?

Many thanks!

Yes, we noted that in our to-do list. It should be implemented in the future version.

Thanks a lot!

Hi again

Just so you know, I tested this using PublishPress Permissions plugin (which we use) and it all worked well apart from giving access to assign the category, similar to this:

https://publishpress.com/knowledge-base/limit-posting-category-parent/

This restricted upload access to the category, which was good, but also restricted read access to the category on the front-end.

It would be good if your plugin was compatible.

Thanks!
