Override Old Files with Same Name

Is it possible to override an old file when a new file with the exact same name is uploaded?

For example, Apple.pdf is loaded into WP File Download. I make changes to the file outside of Wordpress and re-save it with the same name. When I upload Apple.pdf with the changes, can that upload remove the previous Apple.pdf so only the most recent version is available in WP File Download?
