Hi,

When I restrict a file or folder to particular user group. The user is presented with a login page on the frontend before having access to the files to download, is this correct?

Can I view when a user downloads a file in the backend or do I need to go into Google Analytics?

Hi,

When you restrict a file category to a user group the file category will be hidden. Of course you're free to add a login form on the page of course but we don't provide that.

WP File Download have a basic number of download count (a real stat dashboard is planned) and you can use analytic using event to track file download/preview.
