Would you please consider changing how file names are handled? I have almost purchased this product but our users upload files with horrible file names. It would be so much better if your plugin could be set to change the file name to the Title specified, much like WP does with pages and posts. We really don't need to have permanent links created to files like this:
PEQ0083.2 Department's Request for Supplement for Salary Purposes for Standard Worker Non-Admin July 23, 2023 - Final Copy Approved Rev 7-2023 .pdf

Expanding on that, is there currently any way to fix this on a file that a user has uploaded? I was thinking I could correct this somehow on approval but I don't see how the file name can be changed at all. The name is only virtual in the first place, so I'm sort of at a loss as to why we are unable to change it.

The issue of course being that the file name may contain approval dates, revised dates, version dates, and now you have a permanent link (and the downloaded copy of the file also has this name) and the file could have possibly been updated 10 times and is a year down the road from the dates in the file name.

It would be helpful if there was SOME kind of mechanism that we could enable to try to prevent this, or at least be able to fix it during the approval process. Perhaps only available to the admin since it would of course change the permanent link to the file.

Hi,

Thanks for contacting us here about this extension.

No, the file URL cannot be changed once uploaded to WP File Download plugin.
To address this, it's recommended to edit the file title before uploading to ensure the desired URL structure.

Not possible in our situation, and most likely not possible for anyone else on the planet either. People give things crazy names and upload without thinking about it. It is very nuts to me that this can't be fixed. Wordpress allows you to edit the permalink on a post or page, the same should be the case with this plugin. I'm sorry, but we have to make a hard pass, which is unfortunate, because it looks like a really great plugin that has absolutely everything that we need.
