Cornerstone page builder integration

I use X theme with Cornerstone as the page builder. You say that WP File Download is compatible with Cornerstone but my questions are about whether it is easy to integrate. How do you insert the categories on a Cornerstone page? Is there a button as in the standard text editor? Or can you use short codes? Or possibly an x theme cornerstone element? Do you have any documentation for this?
