1. How is a file stored? Is it protected from being found by search engines? Is it protected from being directly accessed by URL?

Files are stored in folders within \wp-content\uploads\wpfd which is protected by .htaccess to prevent the dirrect access. Users can not reach the files if they dont have the privilege to access the link.

2. We need to be able to make files protected by password but able to be accessed without being a logged in user. Is that possible?

The password protection feature will be published in version 4.2.

3. What kind of team collaboration elements are built in?

Hello, i hope you guys are doing great. I am working on my website http://www.hodst.com which is a wordpress / woocommerce website and I was looking for a plugin which could provide security to my digital products such as music files, when they are stored externally e.g google drive, drop box etc.

So that when a guest or a logged in user downloads the file he/she either does not have access to the url of the external downloadable source or even if they have the url and they share it with others, other people should not be able to download it.

Would it be possible to do so through your plugin WP File Download ?

If the files are restricted for registered users, so only can they download or preview those files.
The public users will not preview or download files if they even know the URL of files.

In this situation i would just like the user to get a secure (unshareable) download link after purchasing the product.

And then later on that product is also available for the product owner in the download section of their account.

And I would want this attachment to be automatic i.e the download link is automatically accessible for the buyer.

Yes, you can store files on cloud server to offload your server space. Please go here for more details:

If you are using WooCommerce integration, you can set expiration date or download time for files in our plugin.
Or you can set permission for files, so only registered users (or other role) can download files when they know the file url.

The link will be accessible after purchasing as I remember. If you want to set password for files, this feature will be released in the future version.
