How does the google drive extension work?
Im working on a site where i can give downloads for larger files 100-500mb per file

So Im not able to host them on my server and right now what im doing is to put em on google drive and to get a link of each file and then make buttons on my wordpress posts.

Can the plugin take over this bit? And if users download how do they download it?
They direct pull from google drive or it proxies them through my web server and server uses its bandwidth?

Hi,

Thanks for contacting us here about this extension.

The files are actually stored at Google drive, but it will be downloaded your cloud files through your server.

Following your questions, I moved this ticket to the WP File download category.

Hope it helps!

Please clarify, once assigned a google drive folder to Dropfiles, are all the files inside that folder downloaded to the Joomla server or they remain in Google drive and all that is stored on the Joomla server are alias files with tags, categories and subcategories attached to them?

If the latter, is there an option to specify that a specific Google drive folder gets downloaded on the Joomla server, and then the Joomla files and the Google drive files are synchronised?

Thanks

Further to my earlier post, if the files are retained on the Google Drive, how will the google permissions work? Are link permissions automatically enabled in Google drive for anyone with the link to view/download the file? Can specific permissions on Google Drive still be enabled, meaning that access to the drive folders is allowed to the Joomla server only and Joomla users can view/download those files without specific Google Drive permission?

I hope this makes sense. Thank you

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me with more information.

You mean Dropfiles so I moved this ticket to the Dropfiles category.

Files will be stored on your server when you download files then the temp files will be removed.

If the latter, is there an option to specify that a specific Google drive folder gets downloaded on the Joomla server, and then the Joomla files and the Google drive files are synchronised?

We do not have this option in Dropfiles. All files and categories will be synced under the root folder on Google Drive.

Further to my earlier post, if the files are retained on the Google Drive, how will the google permissions work?

Dropfiles does not use Google permission for files and categories.

Are link permissions automatically enabled in Google drive for anyone with the link to view/download the file?

No, Dropfiles will not do that.

Can specific permissions on Google Drive still be enabled, meaning that access to the drive folders is allowed to the Joomla server only and Joomla users can view/download those files without specific Google Drive permission?

Yes, Dropfiles will use the permission of the user who connects to Google Drive in extension settings.
Then users can download or preview files following Dropfiles settings.

Hope this helps!

So, I were to create a webarchive at the end of a project to be stored on a client’s computer, the links to the files will no longer work because the user will no longer have permission to access the Google drive folder because they would no longer be accessing those files through Dropfiles?

If that was the case, is there an option/instruction to download all the google drive files associated with a site on the local server? At least at the end of a project?

We use SiteSucker to archive our projects.

Thanks again

Sorry, we do not have any options to fit your requirement at the moment.

You can download the root folder on Google Drive and then view it on your pc.

Thanks a lot!
