Hi,

I am considering purchasing LinkyMaps for my website I want to do the following. Please let me know if each line item is possible. The list is in order of importance, from most to least.

1. Display a map of the Eastern half of the US (Maine, south to Florida and west to Pennsylvania)
2. Place 45+ markers, each denoting a different location
3. Display information about the individual location when the marker is clicked.
4. Be able to programmatically, via php/MySQL, fill in the values to be displayed (i.e., I don't want to have to update the information via the UI each time something changes). I would imagine this must be possible since you must be using the database to store your data.
5. Color code the markers so that each marker can be 1 or 3 or 4 different colors.
6. Have a legend that illustrates what each marker color denotes.

Hi Rob,

Let me answer you point by point.

1. Yes and no, depending if I understand well what you mean. You'll be able to display a US map with your region colored and activated with a link or whatever, but not "only" specific region.

2. Yes

3. Yes with tooltip or with html in sidebar

4. Yes all data are stored in database

5. Yes all hexadecimal colors are available

6. Not with oir component but you can do that with a Joomla HTML module or article

Hi Tristan,

Thank you for your detailed response.

I'm attaching an example of what the end result should look like (and does in Joomla 1.5), to make sure you understand what I am referring to. Please let me know if your previous answer is any different based on the screenshot.

Hi,

The map you show me looks like more "My maps location" than "Linky Map".
Linky Map extension build vector maps from Google geochart like attached, it's quite different from Google Maps default.

See you.

Hi,

I guess that was unintended consequence of my screenshot. I was trying to show generally, not specifically what I was trying to accomplish. I honestly don't think I care if it's a Google map, a vector map or a treasure map :). I have the latitude/longitude of all my locations (geocoded from the physical address) and I want them to appear on a map such that people can click or hover over a marker and have that location's info popup.

So I guess my final question is - can you educate me on what the difference is between a Google Map and a Vector Map in terms of what you offer? From a visual comparison of my Google map and the vector map it seems that the Google Map displays the state names, versus the Vector Map which doesn't.

Any enlightenment is appreciated.

Rob

Hi Rob,

Basically the difference are about the data displayed.

With Google Maps you have all the data displayed with all the power it brings (search, names, POI,...). With vector Maps, map is clean and empty and you fill it, you can choose country and region to be displayed, I think it's better to show a client map.
And we don't provide any extension for treasure map (not yet) :)

Bye.
