What changes can I make to the default gallery?

I currently have a project where I need your "default" gallery but the client is being very picky about the look and feel.

Questions:
1. Can I change things like the next and previous icons used? They want them to be thinner and less obvious.
2. Can I remove the white border?
3. Will the photos pre-load or are they loaded on demand?
4. Can I change the color of the overlay from semi-transparent black to semi-transparent white?

In fact, our extension doesn't have this feature, however, it could be adjust in *.css file.

3. Will the photos pre-load or are they loaded on demand?

With default theme, Droppics loads image on demand.
