Uploading and downloading pdfs from the front end with password

Let me answer point by point:

1) Uploads:
a) Password-protected from the front end for a registered user
Not really, the access limitation is by using default Joomla ACL

b) Custom fields options for uploads (so that I can create my own fields, the user has to fill in when uploading - this is very important)
We don't have those functionality, it's more a CCK you'll need for that

c) Would I be able to change the php so that when a file is uploaded by a registered user, it gets automatically renamed to "last uploaded file number +1"
No we haven't

d) Allows pdf upload
Yes we have

2) Downloads:
