I have several pdf and word documents which I would like to display on a downloads page of a client's site. Can thumbnails (ie: report covers) be used to visually recognize the files?

Hi,

Not yet, we have planned to add theme and a preview of the files. Should come during this summer ;)

Are you going to implement the thumbnalis?

I join the question:

Are you going to implement the thumbnails?
My client would like an alternative to the icon which they find less attractive

I'd like this function as well, any update on this?

Hi, yes, this is critical to my clients. Sale or no sale? First response to this question was "this summer 2013". It's fall of 2014, what's the status?

Man, I'd expect a slow or no response from a component that is FREE, but since you guys are not offering free components, you really need to manage your forum better and respond to stuff like this. This one question has almost a 1000 views, which tells me that a lot of people are looking for this feature. What gives?

Hi,

We can reply when we have a planning. We just planned to release the 3.0 version with this feature and others in the next month.
You'll be informed with preview on social networks and with a newsletter.

Sorry for the delay but we need to be sure before giving an answer.

Tristan, I really appreciate the reply and update. Something, anything is better than no response. Question: If I purchase the component now, I assume I would be able to upgrade it when 3.0 is released?

Thanks again!

Yes of course !

OOoh, would it also be able to make a thumbnail of image files? How is this going btw. We are looking into getting this. I've used a number of document management programs and this one looks great.

Also is there a batch importer available?
J
Tristan, another question about this topic. Is there a way to select an image for individual files to display? And for this feature you are working towards, will it generate thumbnails, or is it like what I just mentioned, manually selecting a unique thumbnail image.
T
Hi,

As discussed before, it's not already implemented in the current version.
But that's the idea yes.

Jonathan, I've been using this and so far it's great. I'm using it in a true CMS fashion so it took me some time to figure out the Joomla ACL but the component itself appears to be working great. DropFiles has a "open" option which does open a preview of the file in a lightbox, which is better than a thumbnail, because when talking about documents, thumbnails don't reveal enough details anyway. HOWEVER, not all documents offer the open feature for some reason. Tristan can answer that question I'm sure.

I did find a solutions for images. I simply use DropPics combined with DropFiles. Great solution and all images display thumbnails and open in a lightbox with navigation.

Looking forward to the new release!

Cheers!

Hi,

That's exactly what what we when thinking when we realize the version of Dropfiles. But everyone have different usage of Joomla and components. We are currently working on an editor that integrates better the "Drop" extensions. Then we'll back to enhance Droppics and Dropfiles.

Cheers,
J
oh, is droppics needed to autogenerate the thumbnails? and using them together would do it. But you are working on a way to integrate the 2, right?
T
Hi,

Nope, you can't generate thumbnails in Dropfiles with Droppics.
I think he means he created a gallery or single images with link to the files.

Jonathan and Tristan, what I did was to use DropPics all of my IMAGES and DropFiles for NON-IMAGE files. See attached screenshot.

Again, I do not see an advantage of having thumbnail of a document that is 72x72 because one wouldn't be able to make out any of the details of the document and would be forced to download or open it anyway in order to view what the document contains. UNLESS the size of the thumbnails was adjustable, which I do not believe they currently are.

For example see my attached image of a word document that is 72x72. You can see that it's useless as far as details are concerned. The current "open" feature in DropFiles is MUCH MORE useful.

Tristan, it would be helpful to have the "Open" feature on documents such as Word. Is this something that is planned for later versions?

Hi Jason,

You're right, we've panned to use a user voice like online service for the next version on the website (starts in January).
Thanks for your feedback.

Hey Tristan, I have a few questions for you:

When will the next version of drop files be released? I have a client that really needs the picture preview functionality in the the thumbnails. I thought that the drop pics component would work, but they need to make available different dpi versions of the images. For example: The same image would be available in 72, 180 and 300 dpi. The right click download only downloads the 72 dpi version.

In DropFiles is it possible to send a file to someone from the front end? Basically, can a file be sent directly from the website to an email address?

That's all i have for now.

Thanks.

Jason
