Hi,

I'm trying to find a solution for a document upload and share site.
Users must be able to upload files to different folders. Files must be of different extensions. Other users must be able to see what files are available, Must be able to view the files online, edit online and re-upload if necessary (changed).
The files can be downloaded if the user needs it but the system must allow editing on the fly and re-upload.
Extensions like .doc, .docx, .xls must be supported and permit editing online.
Does your program DROPFILES allow that?

Another doubt is: Google Drive inegration is compuslsory? Or the files can be in our server?

Thank you.

Hi,

This is something possible from frontend, we have a dedicated template to manage files with Joomla ACL for access limitation if needed.

Extensions like .doc, .docx, .xls must be supported and permit editing online.

This is not something possible and the only solution I know for that is Google Drive :)

Another doubt is: Google Drive integration is compulsory? Or the files can be in our server?

Drive files stay on Drive, for security reason if the admin want to disconnect his account from Joomla. But on Dropfiles you can edit all file info (name, description, version...) and upload new files/folders to Drive (double way sync).

Thank you Tristan but I got a bit confused.
For the first part of the question you say it is possible (users can see the files, edit, change and upload them)
For the second part of the question you say it is not possible.
So what kind of files can be edited online and re-uploaded?
I would apreciate if you can explain as it is not possible to figure out from the description of the product.
Thank you

Hi Jay,

OK just to be clear what do you mean by "edited online"?

There's no online interface for file content edition, I mean like modifying the content inside a word file online. With Dropfiles you can modify file information, file name, description... not the content inside the document.

If by edition you mean: file information, file name, description... so everything you need is possible of course.

Check attached a file edition screenshot.

Hi Tristan,

Yes, what I mean is change the content of the file.
So, if I need that the users have the capability of edit the content of a file, either .doc or .xls and reupload it I need to have the Google Drive integration. This way users can work on the files at Google Drive but from inside Dropfiles component (with the capabilities permited by Google Drive).
Is that right?

Thanks

OK I think I got it :)

- If you allow it (using ACL configuration) users can access to file management. They can download a word file, modify it from their computer and re-send/update it on Dropfiles. That's all possible with/without Google Drive.
- What we don't have is an online document edition like Google doc or Google sheet

Hope it helps.

Hi Tristan,

I'm sorry if I can't explain very clearly.
What I want is, in fact, online edition. I mean whithout the need for the user download the document to his computer to change and then reupload.
What I want is available at Google Drive. If someone gives you access to his drive you can go there, edit a doc or a xls file on the fly and it will be saved with the changes you made.
What I want to know is if this can be donne from inside Dropfiles so the users can make these operations from inside their site instead of going out to Google Drive.

Regards,
Jay

Hi,

i'm sorry, so it's what I said about online edition:
This is not something possible and the only solution I know for that is Google Drive, the real one, not only our integration :)
