Can we please have the option to add media categories or tags to file uploads and the ability to filter by category/tag? Being able to organise files into folders is incredibly helpful. But for larger projects we would really benefit from being able to tag files by theme or subject.

Can this please be added to the feature request list?

This feature is not implemented yet, but I'll add it to our feature request list and keep that in mind for a future release.
