Hello JoomUnited / WP File Download Team,
I would like to submit a feature request regarding file permission management.
Currently, as confirmed by support, access control at the individual file level is limited to specific users, while role-based restrictions are only managed at the category level.
While category-based permissions are great for bulk organization, there are common scenarios where role-based restrictions on individual files within the same category would be far more efficient.
Use Case / Why this would be helpful:
Avoiding Category Bloat: Creating separate subcategories just to restrict access to a single file for a specific role (e.g., Editors, VIP Members, or Department Leads) quickly clutter the folder structure and makes management tedious.
Shared Categories with Layered Permissions: In many document hubs, standard users should see general files, but specific files in the same list should only be visible to specific user roles—without needing to manage individual user accounts manually.
Proposed Solution:
In the single file settings panel (where "Single User Restriction" is currently located), add an option to select User Roles / User Groups (e.g., checkboxes for custom or standard WordPress roles) to restrict access to that specific file.
This would complement the existing category permission system and provide much needed flexibility for complex document structures.
Thank you for considering this enhancement!
Best regards,
