Is there a way to modify the search results without manually selecting the gear/settings icon and removing columns? i.e. Remove Hits and Date added column? I know that some of these settings can be modified for the individual files (date added etc.) but I don't see a way to edit the search results. Thanks!

Yes, this is not possible in the search result in our plugin. You should customize template in an urgent case.
We need to discuss more about this feature to be released in the future version.
