The plugin is a great great solution for our intranet, however if I want my users to just download certain documents, I can only partially do that. It seems that despite hiding or disabling the download option, users can still download the doc. by hitting the filename. Based on prior questions/answers in the forum this issue will be addressed in the 4.7 update release, any idea when that might be? Also, can PDF docs that hold any security settings (password protection) continue to hold these settings after an upload to WP File Download?

Yes, the roadmap has been changed following our issue while implementing cool features.
The "password protection for files" feature is something we have planned for a future major release: version 5.1
(we are currently in version 4.7.9).

Hi,

WP File Download has already a file access management by user role or user selection: https://www.joomunited.com/wordpress-documentation/wp-file-download/225-wp-file-download-files-and-categories#toc-7-file-access-and-management-limitation
This will limit the download and preview to the authorized users.

hi,

Is it possible to make downloads unavailable at all, I would like my users only to (pre)view PDF documents and disable downloading all together.
Also, if a PDF is previewed, in the bottom is a toolbar (see attachment) with a download option, can that be disabled?

We have an option to hide the Download button, when you preview PDF in lightbox, there will be no Download button,
