I have used Dropfiles in the past mostly in the backend. I've found it to be a solid component.
I recently updated my school site to J5 and the component I was using for my students no longer works. I would be happy to use Dropfiles if you can let me know if it will do the following:
A student clicks on ADD SUBMISSION button and is taken to an article creation. Normal Joomla article.
They put in a title.
And choose a category, i.e. INTRO STUDENT > WEEK 01 (02, 03, 04, etc.).
They add an attachment (PDF only) and their homework submission is then uploaded.
On a page (or in a module) that said homework attachment (or article) is displayed, in nested categories so that all students in that class (Intro or Intermediate) can download the submission and read the material.
For Example - somewhere on the website:
INTRO SUBMISSIONS
Week 01
Submission 1 (downloadable PDF)
Submission 2
Submission 3
Week 02
Submission 1
Submission 2
etc.
A screenshot is provided to show the old method.
Neither the Intro Class or Intermediate Class can see the other class's work. So Intro can only see Intro submissions and Intermediate can only see that class's work.
All this is Front End only. No back end access is provided or desired.
Now, it doesn't have to be an article attachment as long as students have access to the material to download but it has to be easy to do and simple to find. If you've ever dealt with students...well, let's just leave it at that.
I have no idea why it is so hard to find a simple Add Attachment function to the articles but I've checked with a bunch and none seem to work like the old ATTACHMENTS component that is no longer being developed. It was simple and functioned and I'm lost without it in J5.
I'm hoping Dropfiles will save me.
