This is exactly what WP File Download is doing: Keep filename on upload + you have the possibility to change the title after upload and to add a description using or not a HTML text editor.

Is it okay for me to interrupt?

I would really, really nice, if you would some form of batch editing: Title, description, tags and, indeed, categories. In fact, it would be awesome.

I had to upload a lot of files, and even with a fast server and a very fast desktop computer, it took several seconds for WPFD to save my edits.

If the batch editing will have to wait for some other time, how about a shortcut key that saves the record and moves to the next record in the same field? That alone would be really useful.

This is a really good idea as our plugin is used more and more on big documentation websites
I'll keep that in mind for a future release, a thing like the WP Meta SEO bulk meta or image editor interface would be great.
