User roles from a different plugin

1. Will WP File Download recognize the additional user roles created by third-party plugins (Member in particular) when assigning these to specific documents/pages?

Yes, you can use 3rd party plugin to create User roles. As I see, you can see the new role created by Members plugin in our plugin by the way.

2. Am I understanding correctly that I could build a library on one page and control the different files displayed based on access by different user roles (rather than creating multiple pages)

Yes, you can set user group to access a category. For more information:

3. Am I correct in assuming that WP File Download does not include its own custom user role creation functionality?

Yes, it is not possible to create a new user role in our plugin.
