Hello,

It says the following:

"2.10 Shortcode generator
You will see Files shortcode generator at WP File Download > Configuration > Single file tab.
A shortcode generator is available to load a custom selection of files. Shortcode options/filters are:

Category: select one or all categories
Ordering: ordering, type, title or description, size, version, date or hits"

So for One or All categories options for the Category parameter mentioned above, if config set to All, can you confirm the following to make sure it fits or needs for a new website:

So if I create a WordPress Page fand add in it the WP File Download shortcode for All categories :

Any new categories added by Admin in backend via WP File Download and its allocated documents/files will be seen in front-end of site only by specific user assigned to category?

So even after having hundreds of categories over time with each x documents. if a user logs in and it's coded to redirect to that page with access for that group role or user account - that was assigned to the WP File Download specific category, the user will only see that category and its document? Or will all the categories be displayed to the logged in user on front-end and opening a non authorized category in tree view for example or other view (based on template) will return a message like "Not authorized"? Ideally the user account should only see the specific categories he was assigned to by the admin and not any other category he was not assige to.

And will the load time of the page containing the WP File Download plugin be longer the more there are categories to go through before only displaying those the logged in user can see? Lets say a 100 categories with each 20 files, and user logged in can only see 1 category with its 20 PDFs for example. The load delay will not be perceivable vs. a setup initially having 2-3 categories and few docs each?

Is it what it does in your latest version of WP File Download ?

Yes, user can only view the categories he has permission. if he is not assigned to any categories, the page is blank.

The load delay will not be perceivable vs. a setup initially having 2-3 categories and few docs each?

The page will load those user categories (2 or 3) only so it would not take too much time to do.

But I think I was not clear in my questions. I need to buy your WP File download subscription, but 2 points I need to clarify.

Question 1 :

The site we are building will need to display between 50 to 100 different categories, each category is for a specific project. Each category will contain between 20 to 30 documents. A specific user account will be created for each category and assigned to it. With custom login redirects and other stuff, a user will be redirected to a page of the WP site containing the WP File Download shortcode set to display all categories created.

The question is if a specific user account is assigned to a single category, will the delay to page load and display that single category to that user out of the 50 to 100 categories total, take a significant time or will it be relatively quick like 1 second or less, i.e. almost not perceivable by the end user, or will that user have to wait for a couple of seconds?

For the WP File Download feature View document without actually downloading the full file, when clicking that is the document fully downloaded anyway or is it only partially downloading it and allowing to save some bandwidth if not all pages are viewed? If so, how much typically?

I tried to but not able in My Profile, could you please change my username from current email address (to avoid spam...my mistake...) to simply username marc or marc with some random numbers if taken.

It could take several second to load your page with 50 - 100 categories. It's better if you can set each users a page.

The preview feature will help users see all content in that document, it could not view partial one.
