Hi,

Thanks for adding your feature request here. We’ll keep that in mind for a future release!

Yes, could be interesting to extend the WP Media Folder media rename function to the file name.
Meanwhile i use this plugin that works fine with WPMF and is really cheap: https://wpfactory.com/item/file-renaming-on-upload-wordpress-plugin/

+1 for this. I find the rename function rather quirky and incomplete. I too use a separate filename sanitising plugin (WPArtisan Filename Sanitizer) to get the filename right. I have set the sanitiser and WP Media Folder so that I have this helpful workflow:

  1. WP Media folder to copies the original filename to the Title, Caption and Alt fields. I can adjust these later, but this is a good starting point and means at least those fields have something sensible in them.
  2. WPArtisan Filename Sanitizer cleans up the filename, because at the moment WP Media Folder doesn't do clean-up on the filename.

It'd be great if WP Media folder would take care of both steps so we don't need the extra plugin. As it is I find the rename function in WPMF a bit odd because most of the options are redundant for me and only a couple of options do part of what I want.

To be complete about File Renaming on Upload WordPress Plugin mentioned above, the premium version doesn't just sanitize file names on upload but has useful extra features like:

  • Edit filenames and permalinks manually
  • Update old media (bulk)
  • Autofill ALT tag
  • Custom field rule

WP Media Folder could think of it ;-)
