It would be nice to have an option for
Automatic thumbnail generation for image files (jpg,png) and option to reuse that as custom icon

Which themes are you using? As I see, the thumbnails will display clearly on GDD theme only.
Btw, we are working on the "New icon system" feature for files, you can adjust or create your own.
