Hi,

Just a couple of quick questions on the v4.0 added feature of Dropbox Integration. Trying to get my head around the difference between the Dropbox API settings of 'Full Dropbox' vs 'App Folder'.

Currently our local dropbox folder structures looks like:

C:\Dropbox\Customers
C:\Dropbox\Files
C:\Dropbox\Other Stuff

I only want content that is located within the FILES (and sub folders under files) to be available to Dropfiles - so how would you do this ?

Would you select Full Dropbox and ignore the other folders (Customers & Other Stuff), or would you shift the FILES content to a Dropbox > Apps > localhost-dropfiles folder like your video shows ?

Secondary question - can I create different Dropbox 'App Folder' connections to different folder locations ?

Thanks,
D.

Hi,
Thanks for contacting us here about this extension.
the difference between the Dropbox API settings of 'Full Dropbox' vs 'App Folder'.

- Full Dropbox: all the folder in your Dropbox will be synchronized to Dropfiles.
- App Folder: a folder name "Apps" will be created when you select this option. All folders in Dropfiles will be stored in it.
Can I create different Dropbox 'App Folder' connections to different folder locations ?

One "App Folder" will be created only to connect to Dropfiles.

Hope it helps!

Thanks for the reply.

Can you confirm, the only synchronization between the website (Joomla/Dropfiles) and dropbox is the creation/maintenance of dropfiles categories (tables) on the webserver, ie. the files are still stored within dropbox (not on the website webserver) and the website just does a pass through to drop box for the download of the actual files. I have about 20Gb of data on dropbox today and don't want the whole lot synched to the hosting website.

If I am reading this right, if I set it to FULL Dropbox, every folder will be exposed as a dropfiles category, but only those that are dropped on to Joomla articles will be displayed/accessed.

Is that right ?

Hi,

files are still stored within dropbox

Yes it is, Dropfiles use the API to get files from Dropbox

if I set it to FULL Dropbox, every folder will be exposed as a dropfiles category, but only those that are dropped on to Joomla articles will be displayed/accessed.

Yes it is.

Thanks for your response.

Some testing this am produced some interesting results.

1) App Folder - created new folder, once additional content was added to the folder locally on the PC, it then synched via dropbox, created the folders & sub-folders fine.
2) Full Dropbox - links to base folders only, does not do a recursive search, so only content from base folders was created as categories.

Going to roll with the APP folder method, just have to shift content within the folders on local PC first.

Also, I assume when you add a Description to a file via dropfiles, this is stored within the MySQLi database ? I couldn't see any change to a sample.txt file I created at the PC end.

Cheers.
