hi

I recently bought your WP File download plugin for our subscription based membership site. We used to have another plugin for that but as we switched our membership management software to aMember Pro, that other file manager caused issues with the aMember script and that plugin's support was unresponsive, so we switched our file manager to yours as you are an aMember partner.

One feature of that other plugin was really handy and important to us and unfortunately we are missing that in your plugin. It was the option to limit the amount of downloads per user per any given time period. E.g. we could set a download limit of our choice per user. Each member could trigger i.e. 1, 3, 5 or 10 unique downloads per day or week or month (whatever period we chose to setup). If the member reached that amount of unique downloads per period, he would not be able to download new content until the period we set was passed. By doing this we could prevent people to buy a one month subscription, download all content and cancel their subscription to then come back half a year or a year later and do the same. With a download limit, we could set it so they should have a subscription for at least 2 or 3 months before they can download all content. Content dripping is going too far in limiting as then they wouldn't have access to all the posts and we want them to be able to chose which content they want to download first.

Is this a feature which you would be willing / able to implement in the future?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

Hi,

Thanks for adding your feature request here.

Is this a feature which you would be willing / able to implement in the future?

Yes, the restriction is useful in some cases. We'll consider this in the future release.
As some users' request, we will put a higher priority on it.

Thanks a lot!

in this context additionally a download counter would be nice too.

Hi,

Thanks for the feature submission. I'm currently working on creating a version with that.
So the idea is to have 2 new options that you can use for logged-in users only:

  • Download count limit
  • Download expiration with a delay

Is that correct?

Also note that the WooCommerce digital download integration has a similar option.

Thanks.

We need it for non-logged-in users only.

Both options must also be usable in combination, e.g. max. n downloads in max. n hours/days.

When the download is expired, an according message needs to be posted, e.g. "Download Limit exceeded: max. 3 downloads until ##.##.#### - ##:##"
OK noted for all the points except the non-logged-in users, because that won't work well. Every method can be bypassed (IP, cookies...)

this fwature is required for 'normal' users only, not hackers.

We do not let anyone login to our website, which is actually a real security risk. Therefore a logged-in user solution is completely useless for us.
